About Me

Welcome! My name is Kat de los Santos. I am the owner and therapist of Desert Roots Counseling. I am currently licensed as a professional counselor to practice in Arizona and Texas and live in beautiful Vail, Arizona. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at the University of Phoenix and my Master’s degree in Marriage, Couple, and Family Counseling at Walden University. The beginning of my career was spent working in a community mental health setting in South Dakota, that primarily provided services to Native American youth and their families. After that amazing experience, I transitioned into working in group private practice settings. I have completed extensive training in working with youth and their caregivers as well as working with people who have experienced trauma.

As a spouse of a retired veteran, we have had the pleasure of living in Montana, South Dakota, and Texas before returning to Arizona, where I was born and raised. As a family of 4 with twin boys, we enjoy getting out and doing things with friends and being outdoors whenever possible.

I enjoy exercising, doing puzzles, reading, playing board games, doing art, and playing with fidgets (likely why I am working on becoming a Registered Play Therapist)! I also love to laugh and have fun!

I am passionate about working with youth and their caregivers. Much of my training and experience in community mental health and group private practice has been in trauma, play therapy, assessments, and overall working with children/teens. I also enjoy working with young adults who are transitioning to adulthood and figuring out who they are.

I always say THE MOST important thing about counseling is feeling like you have a good fit with your therapist. That is when the magic happens. If you feel like I might be a good fit for you or your child(ren) on your journey of growth, I would love to hear from you!
